Confession: I use to have TERRIBLE self care. All I ate was processed foods, I was STRESSED, and I was only fit because I was an athlete!!

At the time, I didn’t have acne because I was in the early years after accutane where my skin played into the trap.

However, only a few years later, my lifestyle caught up to me and my acne was SO BAD!

For reference: here’s a picture of my skin BEFORE and AFTER my first year of self care!

My skin isn’t perfect in the second picture, but there’s no more new acne, and it’s all scars!!

I’ve lived through the tragedy of PAINFUL and SEVERE acne, and I’ve overcome them by holistically fixing my lifestyle.

If you believe acne is your body crying for help, or if you simply want to GET RID of ALL your acne, then take a look at this self care checklist to be more peaceful, healthy, and overcome acne!

Self Care Checklist For Healthy Skin:

1. Skincare Routine

If you want to have clear skin, then you should start with a consistent skincare routine. I TRULY believe that a skincare routine will NEVER remove hormonal acne, and will only pick up dirt, so take this with a grain of salt.

Although skincare routines are SO IMPORTANT, so different reasons such as anti-aging, moisturizing your skin, dry skin, etc., it is not the end all for acne.

I use to be OBSESSED with my skincare routine, and tried LITERALLY EVERYTHING (almost.. I’m not perfect). Nothing worked until I implemented stress management and a healthy diet, so keep that in mind.

2. Meditate

Another stress reliever on the self care checklist is meditating! Meditating comes in SO MANY different forms.

There’s yoga, praying, silent meditation, voice meditation, somatic experience, and more! I honestly LOVE all of these forms of meditating, and they are all SO BENEFICIAL.

If you are religious, I would recommend going the spiritual route to get EVEN MORE results. Saying a rosary or thanking God for all of your blessings is a WONDERFUL way to meditate on your life.

3. Buy Yourself Flowers

self care challenge 30 day

Not trying to copy the Miley Cyrus song, but honestly, she GOT IT RIGHT.

Buying yourself flowers is honestly (and debatably) better than receiving them… because you get the ones that YOU PICK!

Having flowers in your home really make you feel better and lowers your stress, and we all know that lower stress means less acne!

4. Walk In The Sun

beauty self care checklist

Another self care checklist idea to help your mental health is walking in the sunlight at least 24 minutes a day (one minute for each hour of the day).

If you face the sun while you’re walking, your skin will have maximum health benefits.

It’s NO secret that vitamin D is SO GOOD for your skin, so get outside walking and receive ALL the rewards.

5. Time With Pets

What’s better than hanging out with your FURY pet? (Can’t think of anything!).

Hang out with your dog, cat, or any other type of pet to feel the love and support from them!

They love you just like you LOVE them, so feel the closeness with your darling pets and enjoy!

6. Tea

Ahh, my FAVORITE drink (besides water). All I need is some Jasmine tea and I’ll shut right up!

Tea is a TOTALLY amazing stress reliever. There are so many different types of tea that provides so many different benefits, that it’s a total win win.

If you need to relax, try some honey lavender, if you have a headache, try some peppermint tea.

There’s a tea for everyone and I will ALWAYS be the biggest tea advocate.

7. Yoga

self care plan

Yoga is a lot like meditating, but a full body experience. Not only is your mind relaxing, but your entire body is too.

A few weeks ago, I went to yoga after missing it for TWO WHOLE WEEKS! (long time for me). And I didn’t realize how much my body NEEDED it.

Yoga incorporates moves for both the body and mind connection, which is essential for everyones life. Although some people (like my mom) claim that “yoga’s boring”, there’s actually a yoga for everyone and is SUPER impactful to your body.

It provides us with mobility and flexibility that will keep up able to do simple tasks as we age.

8. Alone Time With Partner

If you have a boyfriend, fiancé, husband, or any type of partner, then spend some quality time with them!

Relaxing with your partner such as going on a getaway to the nature will provide you with the relaxation that is NECESSARY for clear skin.

If you don’t have a partner, then don’t fret, take your best friend along instead! Go on an adventure with your bestie to those places you’ve always dreamed about going!

9. Watch The Sunrise Or Sunset

Not only are sunrises and sunsets debatably the MOST BEAUTIFUL thing, but this beauty will do wonders to your mental health.

Staring at the world’s beautiful creation will make you wonder about how our wonderful world came about.

If you’re a Christian like me, then this is a VERY meditative moment of gratitude and thankfulness for creating us and such a beautiful world to live in.

10. Weights

Another self care checklist item that is NECESSARY for your body are keeping up with weights!

Lifting weights heavy or light improve your strength and tone of your body, which protects your joints! As you get older, it’s important to have strong bones.

Also, lifting weights is a HUGE factor for your skincare health! It’s better because it increases the dermal thickness of your skin more than other workouts.

The dermal thickness makes your skin thicker, adding an extra protective layer to your skin.

11. Hang Out With The GIRLS!

Although you are doing all of these self care checklist items, that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be fun! In fact, self care is HAVING FUN!

So whatever you find fun, if it’s hanging out with your girlfriends (or guy friends), then hang out with them!

Let loose, joke around, and don’t take life too seriously with them. Self care is all about relaxing and being healthy, and there’s nothing more healthy for you than spending quality time with wonderful people!

12. Bath

self care checklist printable

Ahhh, bath’s. Honestly, I don’t take them as often as I should, but when I do just ahhhh so nice.

They are like a sauna. Sitting in warm, bubbly water at the end of the day is the PERFECT way to detox.

Every time I take a bath, I release SO MUCH stress, and I never realize how much I needed it.

To up your bathing benefits, consider adding epson salt or other salts to aid your muscles in recovering.

13. Eat Healthy Meals

self care checklist for adults

A BIG part of self care and preventing acne is eating HEALTHY! I know, not the easiest thing, but it’s REALLY essential.

On my journey for clear skin, I had to GIVE UP all sugar for 6 weeks! It wasn’t just white sugar, but also in fruits such as bananas and apples. The only fruit I could have really were berries.

This was the Candida diet. VERY HARD diet, but was TRANSFORMATIONAL in healing my GI gut issues.

If you struggle with acne, then know that cleaning your gut health is just as important as managing your stress levels. I still go back and forth on which one’s more important, but they are BOTH so necessary in having clear skin.

14. Take A Nap

daily self care checklist pdf

If you’re tired, you should have the RIGHT to take a nap! (Just not too long).

It’s scientifically proven that just under 30 minutes is the PERFECT amount of time for a nap.

All of your health benefits go out the window if you don’t have enough sleep, which all the better reason to develop a night routine so you can train yourself to get to bed on time!

15. Walk Outside In The Nature

self care diagram

Did you know going for a walk outside in cedar trees lowers the level of cortisol, known as a stress hormone?

My own experience attests to this. When I decide to go outside on walks, my SKIN literally GLOWS!

On the flip side, when I’m lazy and don’t put my self care and health first, my skin starts to spiral and new zits start to form.

Take care of yourself and go for the nature walks! You will soon start to LOVE them!

16. Stretch

daily self care list

Similar to yoga, stretching goes a LONG way. Yoga is more mind to body connection, but stretching just for the sake of stretching can still do WONDERS to your body.

If you’ve ever stretched for 15-20 minutes at a time, then you understand the feeling after. It’s similar to cardio but a somewhat different feeling.

Instead of the runners high, you get the stretchers relaxation, where you still feel AMAZING, but are more relaxed, peaceful, and chilled out.

17. Practice Mindfulness

daily self care chart

Another self care checklist ideas you should do DAILY practice mindfulness.

What is mindfulness you might ask? Mindfulness is focusing your attention slowly and deliberately on each part of your body, in order, from toe to head or head to toe.

A great way to do this is practicing somatic experience, which is a form of meditation therapy (that I LOVE!!!). More information about somatic experience can be found on John Hopkins Website.

For an every day type of mindfulness, you can be mindful of everything that you eat during the day. This could mean focusing on your food instead of watching TV while eating.

18. Read

If you are more of an introvert, or you love both alone time and socializing (like me), then reading is PERFECT for you!

This self care checklist item will provide you with relaxation, while taking your mind to a whole new world.

There’s absolutely NOTHING better than getting lost in an AMAZING book. I’ve been OBSESSED with so many books, that the love of reading will always be there for me, and you will love it too!

Getting lost in a book will bring your stress levels down, as you won’t have anxiety and will be fully immersed with the fabulous book.

19. Cardio

Now let’s talk about fitness. For all of the CRAZY marathon runners out there (couldn’t be me) you know about how AMAZING you feel after a run.

I’m someone who can run around three miles before I and SO BORED, but even with three miles, I know all about the crazy cardio rush! You feel absolutely AMAZING!

Actually, I recently picked up cycling, and I go for the after cardio rush! No matter what form of cardio, it’s SO GOOD for you and will make you FEEL so good!

20. Massage

daily wellbeing checklist

Another relaxing self care checklist idea is getting that message you’ve ALWAYS wanted!

Let’s be honest, who DOESN’T want a massage? Whether you’ve been wanting a full body massage or a pedicure, get it and don’t look back!

Indulging in your self care will make you feel so much cleaner and better, and your mental health is ultimately the most important thing.

21. Play Or Listen To Music

If you are musical, then tap into your music side! Music is important because it is a wonderful activity to do to detox from the stresses of life.

By now, you can probably tell that I’m all about being relaxed, and that’s because STRESS is a MAJOR factor hormonal acne!

For me, I play the piano, violin, and sing. So when I was on my journey to get rid of stress, I did my best to play the instruments that relaxed me the most.

22. Morning And Night Routines

self care checklist for teenagers

Fun fact: did you know your body LOVES and CRAVES for routines? When I do my morning and night time routines, I always get so much more done, and that’s because I’m less stressed.

Developing routines will set you up for success in all aspects of your life. Not only will you see your skin clearing up, but you will be more productive during the days.

For more information about routines, check out my blogs all about self care routines! Sunday routines, productive morning routines, body skin care routines, self care night ideas, and morning routine ideas!

23. Manicures And Pedicures

self care checklist hygiene

Now it’s time to TREAT YOURSELF! Getting manicures and pedicures is the ultimate LOVE YOURSELF moment, which you should be doing when practicing self care.

I don’t know about you, but whenever I get my nails done, I just feel SO MUCH more clean. Feeling clean and put together will help your mental health as you move throughout the day.

I know that when my room and house is clean I am SO MUCH more productive.

24. Art

self care checklist aesthetic

Splash into some artwork to reduce your stress levels EVEN MORE!

I will confess, that I enjoy music more than painting, but that doesn’t mean I still don’t LOVE painting!

My boyfriend and I sometimes have paint nights, and my sister and I periodically go to a local park to paint outside.

These moments of painting and community is SO MUCH fun and SO RELAXING to put your thoughts all over a canvas!

25. Volunteer For A Cause That You Care About

self care checklist for women

A HUGE part of self care, is being thankful for your life and giving back what you can.

It’s a different form of happiness when you can help others out just from the kindness of your heart.

God calls us to help people, so rather you are religious or not, do the right thing and help a cause that you LOVE.

This post was all about the BEST self care checklist to holistically get rid of acne!!
