holistic remedies

For years I’ve had stomach aches, acne, headaches, depression, and anxiety, and always thought that was normal.

Let me break it to ya: IT’S NOT NORMAL.

It wasn’t until I couldn’t handle the pain anymore, that I decided it was time to ditch western medicine and take a different approach.

That different approach happened to be holistic living, holistic healing, and holistic remedies. And the holistic remedies, is the ONLY THING that’s ever healed my body.

Never did I think that I would stop eating my favorite foods and abandon the very glutinous “American diet”, but I honestly didn’t have a choice. It was my body or society, and I chose my body!

So what is holistic remedies? And how did holistic healing actually introduce holistic remedies that healed me?

Well for one thing, if you have SEVERE acne, mental health issues, PCOS problems, then I recommend seeing a naturopathic DR.  But if you want to learn more about holistic remedies, then you are at the right place!

I will share all of the holistic remedies that have worked for me and people that I know. These holistic remedies truly changed my life, and I wouldn’t be at this point in life without these holistic remedies.

This post is all about the best holistic remedies that actually work and changed my life.

Holistic Remedies That Changed My Life

Teas

holistic remedies for allergies

I like to start with teas because ever since I was young, I’ve been OBSESSED with tea.

Although my tea journey shifted from a kid who would put LOTS of sugar and creamer into her tea, to an adult who drinks tea plain for it’s health benefits, it still has the same commonality of warm liquid that calms and cheers me up.

No matter where you are in your tea journey, I will always believe that there’s a tea for everyone.

Here are a few teas that have changed my life though their holistic remedy.

Peppermint Tea:

Aids in digestion and gut health, which is a crucial point in holistic health. Lots of time western diets kills your gut, and your gut is your “second-brain”. Peppermint tea immediately reduced my stomach pains.

Ginger Tea:

There’s a reason why when you’re sick ginger often gets recommended. This is because ginger contains bioactive compounds such as gingerol, which have potent anti-inflammatory effects.

Chamomile Tea:

This tea is known for it’s calming effects, which is a MAJOR benefit in holistic health. Elevated stress levels are known to highly impact hormone levels, so staying calm and relaxed will improve your body’s health.

Spearmint Tea:

Although similar to peppermint tea, this tea has LOTS of hormonal benefits, particularly in women with conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Spearmint tea can reduce the levels of androgens (male hormones) in the body, which can help alleviate symptoms like hirsutism (excessive hair growth) and acne associated with hormonal imbalances.

Turmeric Tea:

Tumeric tea is known for its compound called Curcumin, which has powerful anti-inflammatory effects. Drinking turmeric tea regularly may help reduce inflammation in the body, which is associated with various chronic diseases such as arthritis, heart disease, and certain cancers

Green Tea:

This is my favorite tea, so I HADDD to include it.

Not only is green tea is full of antioxidants, but some studies show that green tea may help improve heart health by lowering levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol, improving artery function, and reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and strokes.

Scents

holistic health definition

Holistic living doesn’t happen over night. After a year into my holistic healing journey, I decided to transition to only natural scents. This meant throwing away all of my toxic perfumes from Victoria Secret and Bath &. Body Works, and only using all natural scents.

Although natural scents weren’t always the cheapest, they were totally worth it, and I quickly learned they had so many more benefits than just smelling good.

They provided the benefits of calming, relaxation, comfort, and so much more. Soon, I became OBSESSED with these scents, and here are a few that I absolutely love!

Rose:

This is my go-to scent at the moment. Well, more specifically amber &. rose.

The scent of rose has been associated with feelings of comfort and relaxation. It is believed to have mood-lifting properties and can help reduce stress and promote emotional well-being.

Lavender:

Lavender is perhaps the most well-known scent for relaxation. It has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety levels, promote better sleep, and even help alleviate mild pain.

Chamomile:

Chamomile has a gentle, soothing scent that can help calm nerves and promote relaxation. It is often used in aromatherapy to reduce anxiety and improve sleep quality.

Sandalwood:

Sandalwood has a warm, woody aroma that is often used in meditation practices. It can help induce a sense of calmness, reduce anxiety, and promote mental clarity.

Skin Care

natural remedies

As someone who struggled most of her life (literally since age 10) with acne, I’m a self-proclaimed expert with skin care. If it wasn’t for acne, I probably wouldn’t care about skincare, but here I am.

I’ve tried all of these things, and honestly they work! If you’re looking for a natural remedy for healing your skin the holistic and natural way, then take a look at these!

Honey and Baking Soda:

This holistic remedy was recommended to me by my voice teacher, and honestly it has done WONDERS to my skin! It removes bacteria from under your skin and is a natural exfoliator.

Just mix 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of baking soda and apply it to your skin! Leave it on for 5-10 minutes, then wash it right off! Added bonus: it smells SOO good!!

Tea Bags On Eyes:

Of course I’m going back to tea, but honestly, if you have puffy eyes, this helps SO MUCH! Particularly if you use green tea, chamomile, or black tea, it will demolish the puffiness, irritation, and dark circles under your eyes.

I’ve done this when I’ve had puffy eyes, and it was the holistic remedy I didn’t know I needed.

Cucumber and Pineapple Smoothie:

Although this doesn’t get applied to your face and is something you should consume, cucumber and pineapple smoothies do WONDERS to your skin.

They are filled with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that your gut will thank you by producing glowing skin.

Rosewater:

I started using a face wash that contained rosewater every day and it actually helps clear my skin. The plant is MADE for out skincare, so we must take advantage of it.

Garnier Faceactive Micellar Cleansing Water is a great option for people who like to simplify their skincare routine. It acts as a face cleaner and makeup remover, and is a great for all skin types.

Tinctures

holistic remedies for anxiety

When I started my holistic healing journey, tinctures are one of the first thing I incorporated in my. holistic lifestyle change.

My hormones were all over the place, and my naturopathic doctor recommended I take tinctures that she created, based on where I was during my cycle.

If you have extreme hormonal imbalances, I recommend speaking with a naturopathic doctor before having tinctures. However, below are some tinctures that I’ve heard have really benefited people.

Black Cohosh:

This is often used to alleviate symptoms associated with menopause, such as hot flashes, mood swings, and sleep disturbances.

Chaste Tree:

Also known as Vitex, this herb is commonly used to regulate menstrual cycles, alleviate symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and support fertility by balancing hormones.

Dong Quai:

Used in traditional Chinese medicine to support women’s health, Dong Quai is believed to regulate menstrual cycles, relieve menstrual cramps, and alleviate symptoms of menopause.

Maca:

A root vegetable native to Peru, Maca is often used to support hormone balance, boost energy levels, and enhance libido.

Rhodiola:

Known as an adaptogenic herb, Rhodiola may help the body adapt to stress and support overall hormonal balances

Healthy Lifestyle Choices

The root of holistic remedies is holistic living, which is all about making lifestyle changes. Lifestyle changes are not a bad thing, as they serve your body to be the healthiest version they can be.

Some of my favorite lifestyle choices that I’ve been doing are listed below, and without these, I wouldn’t be where I am today in my holistic healing journey.

Meditation:

I talk a lot about meditation in this blog, and that’s because it’s one of the most important things you can do for yourself. No matter how healthy you might be, if you’re stressed, your body will not heal.

So to reduce your stress, there are various things you can do such as yoga, prayer, meditate, therapy, read, music, and so much more.

Whatever version(s) of meditation works best for you, stick to it. For me, I use a combination of all of these based on my mood, but the best one without a doubt is always prayer.

Fermented Foods:

Fermented foods are popular because they help your gut health so much. As I stated earlier, the gut is your second brain, because it really influences how the rest of your organs are doing.

Fermented foods helps your gut health by providing lots of probiotics, prebiotics, and antioxidants that your body needs.

Walks Outside:

My naturalist taught me that you should be outside for at least 24 minutes a day, one minute for every hour of the day. To make this better, walk it!

For maximum walking benefits, face the sun while you walk to soak in the sun and increase your vitamin D.

Avoid Sugar:

The hardest holistic remedy I’ve had to do was give up sugar. Sugar really messes up your hormones, because sugar is not good for your body.

Once sugar gets into your gut, it can turn your gut bacteria into bad bacteria that can do a lot of harm to your body.

When you stop consuming sugar, your hormones function better, including the hormones responsible for healthy, restorative sleep.
