A Complete Guide To Avoid Being Lonely On Valentine’s Day

1. Brainstorm Why You Are Feeling Lonely

There are many reasons why you might be feeling lonely. My favorite thing to do when I am feeling down, is write a list of what I am feeling. Once written, you can break it down and figure out why you are feeling they way that you are.

Let’s break down an example;  if you are feeling sad, ask yourself why are you feeling sad? Say you are sad because you’re single, write that down. Next, ask yourself why are you sad that you’re single? Say it’s because you are bored, write that down. Similarly, ask yourself why are you bored? Say it’s because you have nothing to do… ding ding ding!!  You found the problem.

By writing down your feelings, you are able to figure out the true problem. Going back to the example, by knowing that you are lonely on Valentine’s Day because you are bored and have nothing to do, you can fix the problem by picking up hobbies or hanging out with friends.

2. Make A List Of All Of Your Favorite Hobbies

A great way to avoid being lonely on Valentine’s day is to make a list of all of your favorite hobbies or hobbies that you would like to try. Hobbies are a great way to spend time by yourself or others to pass time. Hobbies do not only pass time, but they have the potential to develop into true passions.

Some hobbies are: sports, working out, musical instruments, singing, arts and crafts, painting, video games, coding, cooking, baking, readings, writing, board games, hiking, and more! There are so many hobbies that you can immerse yourself into to avoid being lonely on Valentine’s Day.

3. Have A Galentine’s Day

One of my favorite ways to avoid being lonely on Valentine’s Day is hanging out with friends and having a Galentine’s Day. If you have single friends or friends who do not have any plans on Valentine’s Day, get them all together and spend time with your best friends.

There are many activities you can do with your best friends for Galentine’s Day. For ideas on activities to do, check out my blog post on 21 Amazing Galentine’s Day Activities For You To Grow Closer To Your Friends. This blog post has many ideas from nature hikes to getting margs with your besties.

4. Go On A Long Hike And Listen To A Motivational Podcast

Going on a hike by yourself can be extremely therapeutic. One of my favorite activities is hiking and listening to motivational podcasts. My favorite inspirational podcast right now is The Bible in a Year (with Fr. Mike Schmitz) podcasts. This connects me deeper to God and I encourage everyone to connect spiritually to themselves and the higher power.

Spending time outside can help you appreciate the little things in life. Last fall, my boyfriend and I hiked every weekend to enjoy the changing weather and leaves. During those months I suddenly cared less about materialistic things and just enjoyed being outside and relying on my body to get me through the rigors hike. You really learn to rely on your body as you tackle the obstacles of rocks and more.

5. Watch A RomCom

When I was single, I watched The Notebook on Valentine’s Day because I had nothing better to do. This can be a good thing or a bad thing to do. If you are feeling sad about being single, possibly do not go in this direction since it may make you feel sad. However, if you want to have a good cry, this is a great option to do.

As women, sometimes crying is exactly what we need to release stress. I can’t tell you how many times I cried because of stressful situations I’ve been in and strangely it made me feel better. Besides RomComs being emotional, they also have a lot of humor that can keep you laughing your day away.

6. Hang Out With A Dog

The man’s best friend is always there to cheer you up. If you are feeling lonely on Valentine’s Day, hang out with your dog, your friend’s dog, or get a new dog! Unlike all people, dogs will always be there for you and will love you so much. When I am feeling down, I go over to my dog and her cuddles always cheer me up.

If you don’t have a dog, ask your friends to babysit theirs. If not, then go a pound a get a dog, or do your own research and plan to get a dog elsewhere. Dogs are one of the best ways to avoid feeling lonely.

7. Bake Desserts

Baking desserts is a fantastic way to keep yourself busy, especially at night time. For example, during my senior year of college, I use to bake all of the time to pass time during the nights. I use to go out with my friends, but they were single and so they wouldn’t hang out with me as they wanted to find guys, so I decided to stay home and bake.

Baking became a passion of mine for a few months as I experimented with healthy desserts to bake. I enjoy making gluten free, dairy free, nut free, and low sugar desserts because of my acne and stomach problems. Find your favorite type of desserts and happy baking.

8. Order Your Favorite Takeout

If you are feeling lonely on Valentine’s Day, you should treat yourself to your favorite food. Once, I was home all alone so I ordered sushi and miso soup and watched my favorite reality TV. It was so much fun and I was over the moon happy.

You can take it up a notch and cook yourself a meal to test your cooking abilities. There is nothing more rewarding than a spending a lot of time and energy on a meal and enjoying it.

9. Read A Book

A wonderful activity to do to avoid feeling lonely on Valentine’s Day is to read a book. There is nothing better than being consumed in a book and not being able to focus on anything else but the characters. You truly fall in love with characters and trust me when I say you feel the opposite of lonely.

You should get a book that correlates with your interests. For example, I love fantasy books so I am in love with the A Court Of Thorn And Roses series by Sarah J. Maas. There is a book for everyone!
