I am OBSESSED with being productive, because the more productive I am, the closer I am to my goals!

Although there are SO MANY things you can do to become productive, there’s also A LOT of things that you should AVOID to have a productive day.

I am practically GUILTY of all of these things, for this reason I am DETERMINED to share all of the things that held me back on my journey.

I am hoping that sharing these obstacles will help you in your productivity journey in whatever it is you want to accomplish!

Whether you have a new project that you want to focus on, or your just trying to find time in the day to manage your life, it’s essential to AVOID these things to have a productive day.

1. Scrolling On TikTok

Almost everyone is guilty of this one, but it’s honestly VERY scary how fast 20 minutes goes by when you’re doing this.

I almost ALWAYS regret when I’m finish scrolling on TikTok, because a lot of the times I get into an endless cycle. If I could control my boundaries, perhaps I wouldn’t feel the same way.

However, unless you are winding down from a long day and using TikTok responsibly, there are usually SO MANY better things that you can do with your day.

I’m not saying TikTok is evil, but consider what it does to your mind, and consider other things such as reading or working out, and think about what your body would appreciate more.

When I eliminated TikTok from my day, I had a VERY productive day, and I know you will too!

2. Eating Unhealthy

This one is NOT a joke. Eating unhealthy has a toll on both your physical health and mental health.

For your physical health, eating lots of unhealthy carbs and sugars can make you VERY TIRED. Or give you sugar rushes that will eventually make you SUPER tired.

If you substitute all of the processed foods and sugar for whole foods, then your body will actually have more energy to get your through the day, and for this reason, giving you a productive day.

Food also plays a HUGE role in mental health. If you start your day eating unhealthy, chances are the rest of the day will be followed with unhealthy foods choices.

The constant choosing of unhealthy foods can mentally put you down and make you feel bad about yourself. I say this because this is what happens to me. I’m not ashamed of eating unhealthy foods, but if I overeat them, then I will be feeling down.

To avoid these physical health and mental health obstacles, eat healthy so you can feel your best and have a productive day.

3. Staying In Your PJs All Day

As someone who works from home, I can be very GUILTY of this. It’s fascinating that when I take a shower, wash my face, and clean myself for the day, how much more of a productive day I have.

When you don’t feel good, you won’t do as good. I mean there’s a reason why people dress nice, because when you dress nice you feel confident, and when you feel confident you are ready to take on the day.

To counteract the temptation to say in my PJs all day, I purposely order COMFY yet cute clothes. I am BIG into the cute and comfy sweatshirts, and sweatpants, they make all of the difference.

Also, it’s important to know that dresses are actually SO comfy. In high school, I had a friend who would wear dresses on test days because she found then to be SO comfortable. 

4. Don’t Skip The Gym!

The gym is another thing that takes a toll on both your mental healthy and physical health that can make your break your productive day.

I notice, that when I workout in the morning, I am amped and so ready to take on the day. Verses if I decide to sleep in, I have a slower start and takes me A LOT longer to get ready.

If you are someone who LOVES working out in the evenings (like I do with cardio), then working out is the PERFECT destresser. When I sit all day working hard, all I want to do is run or cycle my energy out. 

5. Sleeping In

We all know that the later we wake up, the less TIME we have to get things done during the day. However, besides the time factor, sleeping in can cause us to be extremely LAZY during the day.

For me, when I sleep in, I’m in instant LAZY MODE. I get down that I wasted quality time, and I honestly just feel like chilling.

On the flip side, when I wake up early, I am SO energized that I have a FULL day ahead of me, that it gives me the confidence that I need to say “hey, I’ve got this”.

It’s kind of like setting yourself up for success. If you give yourself more time during the day to get things done, then you are more likely to have a SUPER productive day.

6. Not Prioritizing Your Self Care Routine

Let’s talk about self care routines! Having consistent routines will truly set you up for success.

Similar to scrolling TikTok, getting on the Netflix binge (for obvious reasons) can be an obstacle in your productive day. Not only is it a distraction, but Netflix can change your mentality. 

As someone who is guilty of binging Netflix in the past, I know how it can make you feel after. At least for me, I feel VERY lazy and pretty bad that I didn’t do anything productive.

To make sure you don’t fall into the Netflix trap, avoid watching TV alone, and make it an effort to only watch when with friends, so that you have to coordinate and enjoy the shows together. 

9. Overeating

Overeating can REALLY impact your productivity. Not only can it mentally make you feel bad, but it will physically make you SO TIRED.

There’s a reason why we all get into a food coma after Thanksgiving!

Eat accordingly by giving yourself smart food portions. When you want to get that second serving, really think about what your body can handle. Perhaps wait a few minutes to make sure you actually need that second serving. 

10. Not Planning Your Day

Going into your day without a plan can lead to disorganization and being overwhelmed. Also, let’s face it, planning is ALWAYS the best way to be productive. 

Whether you’re going to Disney World or planning a meeting, having a PLAN will make sure that you make the MOST of your time.

I bring up Disney World, because when I go, my family ALWAYS plans our days and we have the BEST time. I know families who go to Disney World without planning, and they don’t always have the best time.

Make sure to plan your day so you can the most of it! 

11. Not Getting Enough Sleep

Not getting enough sleep is a recipe for DISASTER! Think about it, not enough sleep leads to sleeping in, which leads to a slow day of no planning, no working out, scrolling through TikTok, eating unhealthy, and more! You get the idea…

As someone who has experienced staying up late WAYYY too many times, I can attest to all of the things listed above. You REALLY need to be discipline the night before, because it will determine the outcome of tomorrow.

12. Caring About What Others Think Too Much

Caring about what others think can actually DESTROY your productive day. If you care about what others think, you will eventually let this guide your day.

If you want a productive day, then you need to do what YOU have to do in order to meet your goals. you CANNOT do what is socially acceptable because honestly, starting a business or meeting your goals will probably NOT be socially acceptable.

For example, SO MANY people judge me for making a blog and think it’s a waste of my time (yes, they’ve actually told me this). I honestly could care less about what they think, because I am determined to have the BEST blog I can make, and that guides me.

Ignore negative comments and do what makes you happy!! 

13. Check Your Mindset: Not Believing In Yourself & Scared Of Failure

As someone who use to be SO SCARED of failure, let me tell you: you cannot be! If you don’t fail, then you will NEVER learn, and that is something I am still learning.

The mindset of understanding that learning is AMAZING and believing in yourself is crucial will change your life. You need to truly believe that you are amazing and that you can do anything you put your mind too!
